NKPOR, Anambra State – A bricklayer identified as Ife has been accused of murdering his girlfriend, Chinasa, and burying her body in a shallow grave at his residence in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The tragic incident occurred after the young woman reportedly turned down his marriage proposal. According to community sources, Chinasa went missing following a disagreement with Ife over the future of their relationship. The suspect, who worked as a local bricklayer, allegedly became violent after receiving a negative response to his proposal and then killed her. In an attempt to conceal the crime, Ife is believed to have buried her remains in a shallow grave within the locality. The victim’s family has demanded immediate justice and called on civil society organisations and human rights activists to ensure the case is not swept under the carpet. Relatives described the act as a brutal violation of human life. As tension continues to mount across Nkpor and neighbouring communities, the Anambra State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the status of the investigation, the whereabouts of the suspect, or the recovery of the body. Community leaders are urging residents to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands while waiting for formal law enforcement action.

In a separate but equally gruesome case in the same town of Nkpor, a young woman popularly known as “Fine Girl” was allegedly murdered, dismembered and secretly buried by her boyfriend, an indigene of Enugu State residing in the community. According to police sources and community reports, the suspect allegedly killed the victim, cut up her body, concealed the remains in a bag, and then buried them. After the victim’s disappearance, the boyfriend reportedly demanded a N3 million ransom from her parents. The ransom call helped investigators trace and arrest him. Sources say the victim had informed a friend that she was going to visit the suspect before she went missing. On Sunday, June 14, 2026, the victim’s remains were exhumed as investigators intensified efforts to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the killing. The suspect is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing. The two killings have sent shockwaves through the Nkpor community and reignited concerns over the persistent violence against women in the region, with residents demanding that the authorities ensure that the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
