The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a series of operational breakthroughs through sustained intelligence-led and community-responsive policing operations across Ago-Iwoye, Mowe, and Warewa Divisions, leading to the arrest of three suspects linked to cultism and armed robbery, the disruption of a planned cult initiation, the prevention of mob action, and the recovery of a stolen motorcycle and generator parts valued at ₦650,000. The successes reflect the command's proactive crime prevention strategy and sustained efforts to deny criminal elements operational space within the state, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed in a statement on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

In a decisive intelligence-led operation, operatives of Mowe Division arrested a 26-year-old male suspect identified as a notorious leader of the Eiye Confraternity operating within the Mowe axis. Acting on credible intelligence, the command uncovered plans by the cult group to carry out an initiation exercise aimed at recruiting new members and expanding its activities. Through sustained surveillance and proactive deployment, operatives successfully arrested the suspect and disrupted the planned cult initiation exercise before it could be executed. During investigation, the suspect reportedly confessed to his leadership role and admitted involvement in cult-related activities. He has been transferred for further investigation and prosecution.

In a separate operation, operatives of Ago-Iwoye Division swiftly responded to a violent armed robbery incident involving a commercial motorcyclist along the Ita-Merin axis of Ago-Iwoye. On June 16, 2026, the victim was attacked by two passengers he conveyed on his motorcycle. The suspects used a hammer to strike the victim on the head and body, inflicting injuries before dispossessing him of the motorcycle. Following a distress alert, residents pursued and apprehended one suspect. Police operatives quickly arrived at the scene, restored order, and prevented mob action against the suspect, thereby averting further breakdown of law and order. The stolen motorcycle and the hammer used in the attack were recovered as exhibits. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects operate in a coordinated manner, targeting commercial motorcyclists along isolated routes using a hammer to overpower victims and dispossess them of their motorcycles. Further investigation established that the arrested suspect is linked to similar incidents within the axis, indicating his role as a key actor within a broader criminal network. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and dismantle the criminal network.

In another intelligence-driven breakthrough, operatives of Warewa Division arrested a suspect involved in the diversion and illegal disposal of a 10KVA generator valued at ₦650,000. The complainant reported that the generator, which was rented out for legitimate business use, was unlawfully diverted and sold at a suspiciously low price of ₦15,000. Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, detectives traced the exhibits to Kara-Isheri, where the suspect was arrested while dismantling the equipment into parts. Some parts of the generator were recovered as exhibits. Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect may be connected to a wider pattern of similar fraudulent activities involving rented equipment.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operations and reaffirmed the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and community engagement. He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state. The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
