Police Arrest Two Suspected Armed Robbers, Recover Firearms in Oyo, Ogun

The has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms during a coordinated operation across and , in what authorities described as a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb violent crime.

According to the command, the suspects—identified as Ibrahim Mohammed Dabban and Ndako Sulaimon, both residents of the Sabo area of Sagamu in Ogun State—were intercepted by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol attached to the Oyo/Ogbomoso axis on June 15, 2026, at about 10:48 a.m.

Police said the suspects were travelling in a gold-coloured Nissan Maxima with registration number FKJ 666 KA when officers stopped the vehicle during a routine patrol operation.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of several suspicious items, including one live cartridge, a cutlass, two jackknives, a handcuff, assorted fetish items, dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, and a Soul-Safe uniform.

The discovery prompted the immediate arrest of the suspects, who were subsequently transferred for further investigation.

Following preliminary findings, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, , ordered the transfer of the case to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit for expanded investigation.

During interrogation, police said the suspects made confessional statements linking themselves to armed robbery and other violent criminal activities.

Investigators also revealed that one of the suspects admitted to illegally possessing a pump-action rifle allegedly obtained from a supplier based in Iperu, Ogun State.

Acting on the intelligence, police extended the investigation into Ogun State, where a follow-up operation resulted in the recovery of two pump-action rifles, three live cartridges, and one expended cartridge from locations associated with the suspect and the alleged supplier.

Authorities said the suspected supplier remains at large, but efforts have been intensified to track down all individuals connected to the illegal arms network.

The police assured residents that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ criminal activities and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.

The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to help combat crime.
