Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has disclosed that the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) database contributed to the arrest of seven suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) commanders. The minister said the suspects were intercepted while returning from the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, describing the development as an example of how digital identity systems can support security operations and improve the ability of government agencies to identify persons of interest.
