Several people have been injured and an unknown number of residents abducted following an attack on Rimawa community in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, according to local sources.
The attack, which reportedly lasted for nearly two hours, saw armed assailants invade the community, with residents saying homes were looted and valuables taken during the incident.
Sources in the area said some of those injured were taken to hospitals for medical attention, while the number of people abducted remains unclear.
Residents have also expressed concern over the reported absence of an immediate security response during the attack, saying the delay left the community vulnerable as the attackers carried out their operation.
Goronyo Local Government Area is among parts of Sokoto State that have faced recurring security challenges in recent years, including attacks linked to armed groups operating in north-western Nigeria.
Communities affected by such incidents have continued to call on authorities to strengthen security operations, improve intelligence gathering and ensure quicker responses to threats.
The Nigerian government and security agencies have repeatedly stated that efforts are ongoing to tackle insecurity across affected regions. However, residents and community leaders have continued to demand more visible security presence, especially in rural communities.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement confirming details of the attack, including the number of casualties, those abducted or the identity of the attackers.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the safety of communities facing persistent security threats and renewed calls for stronger measures to protect lives and property.
