The Katsina State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected drug trafficker accused of supplying illicit substances to bandits operating in Funtua Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Sunday Eze, popularly known as Dunbuje, was arrested during an intelligence-led operation carried out by police officers on Wednesday, July 15, according to the command.
Police said 500 D5 tablets were recovered during the operation, adding that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was allegedly involved in supplying drugs to criminal groups operating within and around the Funtua Zone.
The command said the arrest followed intelligence gathering aimed at disrupting networks believed to support criminal activities in the area.
Security experts have often warned that armed groups depend not only on weapons and fighters but also on wider support systems, including access to supplies, information, transportation and other forms of assistance that enable their operations.
The disruption of these support networks has become a key part of security efforts in tackling banditry and other forms of organised crime across parts of northern Nigeria.
Katsina State, like several states in the north-west region, has faced security challenges involving armed groups accused of attacks, kidnapping and other criminal activities. Authorities have continued to conduct operations aimed at identifying and arresting individuals suspected of supporting such groups.
However, community leaders and security stakeholders have also stressed the importance of protecting innocent residents while pursuing suspects, warning that allegations must be properly investigated to avoid wrongful accusations and further tensions within communities.
The police command has not disclosed further details about the ongoing investigation or whether additional arrests are expected.
The latest development has renewed discussions about the role of logistics networks in sustaining criminal groups and the need for stronger cooperation between security agencies and communities to address insecurity.
