Police Investigate Sudden Death of 60-Year-Old Man Found With 20-Year-Old Woman in Jigawa Hotel

The Jigawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the sudden and unnatural death of a 60-year-old man at a hotel in Dutse, the state capital, after he reportedly checked into the facility with a 20-year-old woman. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at approximately 12:50 p.m., according to a statement issued by the command's spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam.

According to the police, the man developed a medical emergency shortly after requesting a meal. "The incident occurred at a hotel in Dutse, where a 60-year-old man who checked in with a 20-year-old woman suddenly developed a medical emergency after requesting a meal," Adam stated. The man reportedly began gasping for air shortly after the meal was served. Police officers attached to the Yalwawa Division responded swiftly to a distress call and evacuated the victim to the General Hospital, Dutse, where he was examined by medical personnel and certified dead.

Detectives secured the scene and conducted a preliminary examination immediately after the incident. During the exercise, they recovered some food items, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance, and other personal effects for further forensic examination. All necessary procedures were followed to preserve exhibits and aid a comprehensive investigation. Following medical certification and completion of necessary formalities, the remains of the deceased were released to his family for burial.

The 20-year-old woman who was with the deceased at the time of the incident is cooperating with investigators and providing useful information to help establish the sequence of events leading to the man's death. The Commissioner of Police for the Jigawa State Command has assured the public that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly, professionally, and impartially. The police have urged members of the public to refrain from speculation or circulating unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic or prejudice the investigation.
