NUC Approves 24 New Courses for Kwara State University, Including Nursing, Engineering, PhD Programmes

The National Universities Commission has granted Kwara State University, Malete, approval to commence 24 new academic programmes, spanning both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session. The approval was conveyed in a letter dated June 19, 2026, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, and signed by the NUC’s Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, according to a statement by the university’s Director of University Relations, Professor Saeedat Aliyu, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

The approved programmes comprise 14 undergraduate courses and 10 postgraduate programmes. The undergraduate offerings include B.Sc. Architecture, B.Sc. Quantity Surveying, B.Sc. Surveying and Geoinformatics, B.Nsc. Nursing Science, B.Ed. Educational Technology, B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling, B.Ed. Health Education, B.Ed. Entrepreneurship Education, B.Sc. Insurance and Risk Management, B.Ed. Technology Education, B. Community Health Science, B.Eng. Computer Engineering, B.Eng. Industrial and Production Engineering, and B.Eng. Biomedical Engineering. The postgraduate programmes include M.A. and Ph.D. in Fine and Applied Arts, M.A. and Ph.D. in Performing Arts, M.A. in Linguistics, PGD, M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology, as well as Ph.D. programmes in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Public Administration, and Mass Communication.

Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, expressed excitement and congratulated the university’s staff for their dedication during the NUC resource verification exercise. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to maintaining its standards in teaching, research, and community development. “The university will continue to sustain the excellence in teaching, research, and community development for which the institution is reputed, producing the excellent human capital resources needed to propel global development,” the vice-chancellor said.

The approval significantly expands KWASU’s academic portfolio, particularly in engineering, health sciences, education, arts, and communication, positioning the state-owned university to meet growing manpower needs across critical sectors of Nigeria’s economy. The new programmes are expected to broaden learning opportunities for students and strengthen the institution’s capacity for specialised training.
