The Bauchi State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, has inaugurated members of the State Local Government Election Tribunals, Appeal Tribunal, Family Court I, and Right of Way Mobile Court, charging them to discharge their duties with absolute impartiality, independence, and strict adherence to the law. The inauguration, which took place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Bauchi State High Court premises, comes just days before the local government elections scheduled to hold across the state, signalling the judiciary's readiness to handle disputes that may arise from the electoral process.
Justice Umar, in a ceremony that drew judicial officers, legal practitioners, and court officials, formally inaugurated the tribunals and courts, declaring: “I hereby formally inaugurate the Local Government Election Tribunals and the Appeal Tribunal of Bauchi State, Family Court 1 at the Magistrate level, and the Right of Way Mobile Court, and wish all members a successful tenure.” The Chief Judge congratulated the new appointees, noting that their selection was based on their competence, integrity, and commitment to the administration of justice. She reminded them that the responsibility entrusted to them was a solemn one, requiring a high level of professionalism and dedication.
The Local Government Election Tribunals were constituted specifically to adjudicate disputes that may arise from the forthcoming local government elections in the state. Justice Umar charged the tribunal members to discharge their duties without fear or favour, affection or ill will, and to treat all political parties equally, regardless of their political affiliation, status, background, or position in society. “Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done,” she said, urging the judicial officers to resist every form of pressure, influence, or interference. The Central Zone Tribunal and Special Court will operate from the Magistrate Court premises in Ningi. This zonal arrangement is designed to ensure that disputants from across the state have access to judicial redress without undue hardship.
