The wife of embattled Delta State content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, has broken her silence, fiercely defending her husband against allegations that he raped and drove 20‑year‑old Favour Agbro to her death. In an emotional video shared on Ogbonna's social media page on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the woman, whose name has not been publicly disclosed, insisted that her husband did not rape the young lady but only had an "affair" with her.
"Odogwu Asaba did not kill anybody. I know my husband. Odogwu Asaba did not rape Favour. Odogwu Asaba only had an affair with the girl," she said in the video. She added, "He cannot rape, he has never. Even when he did not have fame, he did not rape anybody, is it now?" The wife, who said she has been married to Ogbonna for eight years and they have four children together, also cautioned the public against rushing to judgment based solely on social media posts. "Everything is not actually the way they presented it. Before I could come out to talk, I have learnt a lot about this matter. Social media is not a courtroom. You people should bear that in mind," she stated.
The controversy began in July 2026 when the Delta State Police Command arrested Ogbonna, 40, in connection with the alleged rape and subsequent death of Favour Agbro, a 20‑year‑old nursing student. According to police reports, Favour travelled from Warri to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after Ogbonna allegedly offered to mentor and train her in content creation. The police alleged that he took her to a hotel, where he raped and physically assaulted her. Favour later returned home distressed, recorded a video detailing her ordeal, and subsequently ingested a toxic substance. She died while receiving treatment. Ogbonna was arrested following a petition by the deceased's family and human rights activist, Comrade Israel Joe.
In her video, Ogbonna's wife acknowledged the tragedy of Favour's death but insisted that her husband was not responsible. "Yes, someone has died and that is why we are taking it easy. But Odogwu Asaba did not kill anybody," she said. She also said she had been following the developments surrounding the case and had chosen to speak after learning more about the matter. "I am trying to follow the matter the right way; I have not been silent. I want to let you people know that no matter what happened, he is my husband and I stand with him 100%. I'm not going to turn my back on him," she declared. The wife also revealed that bloggers had been tracking her and her children, using photos to frighten her into silence.
The Delta State Police Command has not yet responded to the wife's claims. The police had earlier said Ogbonna would be charged to court. Ogbonna has not been convicted of any offence, and the rape allegation remains subject to investigation and determination through the appropriate legal process. However, the police have confirmed that he was arrested and that investigations are ongoing. The case has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for justice for Favour. Some public figures, including a media aide to the Delta State Governor, have also called for severe punishment if Ogbonna is found guilty.
As the legal process unfolds, the public remains divided. While the wife's defense has offered a counter-narrative to the allegations, critics argue that her claims do not address the core of the accusations—that a young woman's life was taken under distressing circumstances.
