The Transmission Company of Nigeria has firmly rejected claims by Kaduna Electric that a fault on the 330kV Jos transmission line caused reduced power supply across the distribution company's franchise area. TCN described the claim as “false and a deliberate misrepresentation of facts” in a statement signed by its management on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
Kaduna Electric had earlier blamed the power cuts on two main issues: an outage at one of the generating units at the Shiroro Generating Station and a fault on the 330kV Jos transmission line. The company said the transmission line fault had forced Shiroro to supply Jos and its surrounding areas instead, which further reduced the power available to Kaduna Electric. It also said it received just 104 megawatts from the national grid on August 25, based on the National Control Centre's daily load allocation.
TCN, however, insisted that all 330kV transmission lines connected to Jos are currently operational and transmitting bulk electricity. The company acknowledged a single incident on August 23, 2026, at 3:30 a.m., when the circuit breaker on the Jos–Lafia 330kV Line 2 was opened for voltage control as part of routine grid management. That line was restored and returned to service at 11:59 p.m. on August 24, TCN said. Since then, there has been no outage or disruption of bulk electricity transmission on any 330kV line supplying Jos that could be attributed to TCN.
TCN urged Kaduna Electric and other stakeholders to verify transmission-related information with the company before making public statements that could mislead consumers and create unnecessary anxiety. It also advised electricity customers in Jos and surrounding areas to disregard what it described as misleading information. The company reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and the efficient transmission of bulk electricity to distribution companies across Nigeria.
The public dispute between TCN and Kaduna Electric comes as power supply remains a major challenge across the country, with consumers often left in the dark about who is responsible for persistent outages. While Kaduna Electric maintains that transmission constraints are a key factor, TCN has drawn a clear line: the problem is not on its side.
