Bandits have kidnapped a man identified as Umar during a midnight raid on Lata NNA community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, while four other residents abducted in previous attacks remain in captivity.
According to a source who escaped the scene and spoke with NupekoTV, the attackers invaded the community between approximately 11:40 p.m. and 12:10 a.m., taking advantage of the heavy rainfall to carry out the operation quietly. The source said he raised the alarm and alerted military personnel who were conducting their regular patrol in the community. However, by the time the soldiers arrived, the bandits had already fled with Umar.
The source explained that the attackers may not have been aware that soldiers were present in the town, adding that the heavy rainfall appeared to have helped them move without attracting attention. "They wished to carry out the attack silently. They wanted to go with two people, but the other old man did not cooperate. They did not want to shoot, so they allowed him to stay," the source said. Umar, the latest victim, is reportedly a Hausa man and was abducted during the early hours of Sunday.
Four Others Still in Captivity
Meanwhile, four other residents of Lata NNA remain in bandit captivity following previous attacks on the community. Those still being held include Mohammed Abubakar Ndakpada, a SUBEB teacher and farmer, and Abdullahi Nma, a farmer from Lade who is based in Lata. Both are Nupe men. The other two victims are reportedly Hausa men. The latest abduction, coming amid the continued captivity of the four residents, has heightened concerns over the security situation in Lata NNA and surrounding communities.
Youth Leader Calls for More Military Presence
Speaking with NupekoTV, youth leader Tauheed Ahmed Desco called on the government to urgently fast-track the deployment of additional military personnel to the area. Desco said residents remain vulnerable to further attacks and abductions without a stronger security presence. He urged the government to intensify security operations in the community and surrounding areas to protect residents and prevent further attacks. The latest incident has renewed concerns over the safety of residents in parts of Patigi LGA, where communities continue to face the threat of bandit attacks and abductions.
