Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully thwarted an attempted advance by terrorists toward Ghandi town in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The operation, which took place on the morning of Sunday, August 30, 2026, followed credible intelligence about the terrorists' planned movement into the area.
Acting on the intelligence, troops took strategic positions around Ghandi Bridge and engaged the advancing terrorists, forcing them to retreat in disarray. Several terrorists were reportedly wounded during the encounter, with some attempting to escape through the river.
At daybreak, troops conducted a follow-up search of the area and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, additional rounds of ammunition, and personal effects abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. Mop-up operations are ongoing to track the fleeing elements and prevent any further attempts to regroup or attack.
The timely intervention by the troops prevented the attackers from advancing into Ghandi town, thereby averting potential harm to civilians and disruption of community life. The military said the operation underscores its commitment to protecting lives and property and denying terrorists freedom of action in the North-West region.
The Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security forces to support ongoing operations.
