The South African Police Service has launched a manhunt for a 41‑year‑old Nigerian national, Stanley Ozioma Abachi, who is wanted in connection with a drug possession and trafficking case that was registered in April 2022. In a statement issued on Sunday, August 30, 2026, the Senekal police requested community assistance to locate the suspect, who was last seen somewhere in Welkom, Free State. A warrant of arrest has been obtained for Abachi.
According to the police, Abachi is a foreign national sought for a case of drugs and drug trafficking that dates back more than four years. Authorities have not disclosed the specific details of the alleged offence, but the case was registered in April 2022. Anyone with information about Abachi’s whereabouts has been urged to contact Senekal Detective Commander Captain Calvert on 082 466 7635, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or submit an anonymous tip through the MySAPS App.
The development comes on the same day that SAPS confirmed the arrest of two other Nigerian nationals during a separate drug operation in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. The operation, conducted on Thursday, August 27, 2026, led to the seizure of suspected drugs with an estimated street value of R1.5 million (approximately N125 million). The two suspects—36‑year‑old Kelvin Ike and 52‑year‑old Okeke Joseph Sunday—were arrested and appeared in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court, with their case adjourned until Monday, August 31. A third suspect, a 42‑year‑old arrested on a drug‑dealing charge, is also expected to appear in court on the same date.
The SAPS has appealed to the public to assist in locating Abachi, who remains at large. The police have not disclosed whether Abachi is believed to still be in South Africa or if he may have fled the country. The warrant for his arrest remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
