The Kano State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapped traditional title holder, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, the Sarkin Noman Kano, after suspected bandits abducted him during a night attack on Garun Mallam town. The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, when armed men stormed the community in Garun Mallam Local Government Area and began shooting sporadically into the air.
According to a statement issued by the Command's Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, the hoodlums abducted Alhaji Nadabo during the attack and shot three residents—Yusif Nasiru, 20; Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, 20—who sustained gunshot injuries. Upon receiving the distress call, police tactical and patrol teams, along with reinforcements from neighbouring divisions, were immediately mobilised to the scene.
The police, working in collaboration with members of the community, including vigilantes and the Neighbourhood Watch Corps, gave the hoodlums a hot chase. The combined pressure forced the bandits to abandon the kidnapped victim and flee the scene. Alhaji Nadabo was subsequently rescued unhurt.
The rescued traditional title holder and the three injured victims were rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention. The command has since emplaced confidence-building patrols in and around Garun Mallam town to prevent any further breach of peace, while a manhunt has been launched to arrest the fleeing perpetrators. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, commended the prompt response of the police teams and appreciated the residents of Garun Mallam and neighbouring areas, as well as members of the Vigilante and Neighbourhood Watch Corps, for their vigilance, bravery and cooperation. He urged residents to remain calm and continue providing credible information to aid in the arrest of the culprits.
This successful rescue operation highlights the effectiveness of community-police collaboration in tackling insecurity in Kano State. The police have assured residents of sustained patrols and security operations aimed at preventing attacks and safeguarding communities across the state.
