Salamatu Yusuf, daughter of the abducted Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa, has recounted the terrifying moment bandits stormed their family home in Chiromawa town, Garun Malam Local Government Area, and took her 86-year-old father away at gunpoint.

Speaking with Premier Radio Kano, Salamatu described how the attackers entered their residence directly, moving from room to room until they found their target. "They entered right into our rooms and took our father away," she said, painting a disturbing picture of how far the attackers were able to penetrate the community without facing immediate resistance.

The attack occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, when suspected bandits invaded Chiromawa town and headed straight for the residence of the Sarkin Noma. According to the Chairman of Garun Malam Local Government Area, Alhaji Aminu Salisu Kadawa, the gunmen opened fire indiscriminately upon arrival. Three people were killed in the attack, while five others sustained various degrees of injuries.

The Kano State Police Command confirmed that the hoodlums abducted Alhaji Yusif Nadabo during the operation and shot and injured three residents—Yusif Nasiru, 20; Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, 20—all from Garun Mallam town. Two other victims were also injured, bringing the total to five.

Upon receiving a distress call at about 11:30 p.m., police tactical and patrol teams, along with reinforcements from neighbouring divisions, were immediately mobilised to the scene. The police, working in collaboration with members of the community, vigilantes and the Neighbourhood Watch Corps, gave the hoodlums a hot chase. The combined pressure reportedly forced the kidnappers to abandon Nadabo and flee into the bushes before security operatives could apprehend them. Alhaji Yusif Nadabo was rescued unhurt.

The rescued traditional title holder and the three injured victims were rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention. The council chairman said he personally led council officials to the hospital, where they stayed through the night to ensure the injured victims received adequate care.

The command has since emplaced confidence-building patrols in and around Garun Mallam town to prevent any further breach of peace, while a manhunt has been launched to arrest the fleeing perpetrators. The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, commended the prompt response of the police teams and appreciated the residents of Garun Mallam and neighbouring areas, as well as members of the Vigilante and Neighbourhood Watch Corps, for their vigilance, bravery and cooperation.

The Kano State Government has pledged to intensify security measures in the area to prevent further attacks. The council chairman appealed to residents to remain calm and prayerful while urging them to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist in tracking the attackers.

For the family of Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa, the trauma of the attack will not easily fade. As his daughter Salamatu's chilling account shows, the bandits did not just strike from the outside—they entered the very rooms where families slept, a stark reminder of how far insecurity has penetrated even the homes of traditional leaders in Nigeria's North-West.
