The Kano State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of reporting. However, a resident of the community, Hamza Isah Rantan, confirmed the attack in a Facebook post on Monday. He stated that the attackers stormed the community at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, shooting residents. Buba sustained gunshot wounds and later died at a hospital. Zunduma was killed instantly.
The village head of Rantan, Alhaji Muhammad Adamu, also confirmed the incident, saying the assailants invaded the community on Sunday night. He added that the gunmen killed two residents during the attack and subsequently abducted the wife of one of the victims. The attack came just hours after the reported rescue of the Sarkin Noman Jihar Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa, who was abducted in Chiromawa, Garun Malam LGA.
Residents have called for a stronger security presence in the area. The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Kano State, particularly in areas bordering Katsina and Zamfara states.
