The Federal Road Safety Corps has secured the remand of a driver, Mubarak Mansur, and impounded his articulated vehicle following his arraignment before a mobile court sitting at Kabusa Roundabout, Abuja, over alleged route traffic violation, dangerous driving, and fleeing with an arresting FRSC marshal.
The incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, during a mobile court operation at Kabusa Roundabout, where the driver was arrested for an alleged route traffic violation. According to the FRSC, while officers were in the process of impounding the vehicle, Mansur allegedly diverted from the prescribed route with the arresting marshal still inside the vehicle. The marshal raised an alarm and called for reinforcement, prompting a coordinated response by FRSC personnel and the Nigeria Police. The articulated vehicle was intercepted and rerouted to the Apo Unit Command before being towed by a heavy-duty recovery vehicle to the FRSC RS7.1 FCT Sector Command for safekeeping pending the determination of the case.
The mobile court, presided over by Her Worship Teresa, ordered that the articulated vehicle be impounded at the FRSC RS7.1 FCT Sector Command. The court also ordered that Mansur be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until September 8, 2026, for hearing and determination.
Speaking on the development, FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said road safety enforcement is not merely about penalising traffic offenders but about protecting lives and ensuring that every road user complies with established traffic regulations. He warned that attempts to evade lawful enforcement or compromise the safety of enforcement personnel would be treated seriously and handled in accordance with the law. The Corps Marshal particularly urged operators of articulated and other heavy-duty vehicles to comply with designated routes and other traffic regulations, stressing that no motorist or operator is above the law when public safety is at stake.
The FRSC commended the Nigeria Police Force and other stakeholders for their cooperation in enforcing road traffic laws and protecting both road users and enforcement personnel.
