A group of supporters mobilised for an All Progressives Congress campaign activity in Kano State has publicly protested the ₦3,000 payment they received after spending their own money to travel to the venue and waiting for several hours. The incident, captured in a viral video on Monday, September 7, 2026, has ignited widespread criticism on social media and raised fresh concerns over the treatment of grassroots supporters in political mobilisation drives.
In the video, a representative identified as Salisu Shaibu, speaking in Hausa on behalf of the gathered supporters, detailed their grievances. He said the group had been kept waiting since 7:00 a.m. and that many had to borrow money to afford transport to the campaign ground. "Some people spent ₦1,000 just to come here, while others spent ₦1,500. You gave them ₦3,000. This is the truth. Before we return home, our families have already incurred debts on our behalf," Shaibu said. He declared that the supporters would not participate in similar mobilisation exercises in the future, stating, "If this is how this journey is going to be conducted, then we are not going."
The complaint follows a political mobilisation by the APC in Kano, where the party reportedly received more than 136,000 new members and unveiled a support structure for President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election campaign. The protesters, seen wearing yellow polo shirts branded with the APC logo and the inscription "Turakin Rano 2027," expressed dissatisfaction over the amount they received, with some threatening to stay away from future events if the payment remains unchanged. One of the men lamented, "If you people keep giving us ₦3,000 for APC campaign, we won't come again. Some of us borrowed transport fare to come to the campaign ground, and they are only paying us ₦3,000."
Social media users have reacted with a mix of criticism and condemnation. Some have blasted the APC for using public funds for political mobilisation while neglecting development. Others have condemned the residents for accepting money to attend political rallies, with one user writing, "If you can't support a party organically based on their ideology then you are nothing but a thief."
