A 20-year-old man in Adamawa State has been arrested alongside two other suspects over an alleged robbery attack on his mother and siblings at their family residence in Wuro-Kuturu, in the Jimeta area of Yola, the state police command has said.
The suspects were identified as Aminu Adamu, 20, Adamu Mamman, 22, and Nuhu Umar, 22, all reportedly residents of Wuro-Kuturu in Nassarawo, within Yola North Local Government Area. Police said the incident occurred at about midnight on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, after Aminu allegedly conspired with the two other men to attack his family home.
According to the police account, the three suspects allegedly armed themselves with dangerous weapons before gaining entry into the residence. They allegedly took ₦200,000 in cash, two mobile phones and a power bank from Aminu’s mother and other members of the household before leaving the scene.
The Adamawa State Police Command said the case came to the attention of law enforcement after the victim reported the incident. Following the complaint, operatives attached to the Karewa Area Command began efforts to identify and locate those suspected to have been involved in the attack.
The police said the operation resulted in the arrest of the three suspects on Thursday, September 17, two days after the alleged robbery. Their arrest was subsequently announced by the command as part of its response to the reported attack and its wider efforts to investigate crimes in the Jimeta area.
Police said several items were recovered from the suspects after their arrest. The recovered items included a knife, pliers and scissors, which the command described as part of the materials found in connection with the investigation. Officers also recovered substances described by the police as suspected hard drugs and quantities of suspected Indian hemp.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Sulaiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the suspects confessed to the alleged crime during interrogation. The statement attributed to the police did not provide further details about the circumstances of the alleged confession or indicate whether any of the recovered property had been returned to the family.
The command has not indicated that anyone was physically injured during the incident, and no medical treatment was reported in the information made public by police.
The allegations remain subject to the outcome of the police investigation and any subsequent court proceedings. An arrest or police allegation does not by itself establish criminal liability, and the suspects are entitled to due process under Nigerian law.
The case has drawn particular attention because one of the suspects is alleged to be the victim’s son. Police said Aminu was the family member who allegedly conspired with Mamman and Umar before the group entered the residence. The command did not disclose a motive for the alleged attack, nor did it state why the suspects allegedly targeted the family at that particular time.
The reported loss of ₦200,000, two mobile phones and a power bank represents the property identified by police in their initial account. The command did not publish an estimated total value for the electronic devices or provide details about whether the stolen phones or power bank were recovered.
The recovery of knives, pliers and scissors has also become part of the police investigation. Such items can have ordinary household uses, but investigators may examine the circumstances in which they were allegedly carried or recovered, particularly where police allege that suspects entered a residence while armed. The command has not publicly disclosed forensic findings or other evidence that may be presented during prosecution.
The additional recovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs and Indian hemp introduces a separate line of investigation. However, the police statement did not identify the substances by their specific names, quantities or laboratory status. It therefore remains unclear from the publicly released information whether any separate drug-related charges will be brought against the suspects.
Commissioner of Police Kabir Umar Hassan directed that the case be thoroughly investigated and that the suspects be diligently prosecuted upon completion of the investigation, according to the command. The directive places the next stage of the matter with investigators, who are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged robbery and compile the evidence required for any prosecution.
The police command has not announced a court date or disclosed the specific charges that may ultimately be filed. It also has not stated whether the suspects have legal representation or whether they have been formally arraigned before a court as of the latest public statement.
The incident occurred in the Jimeta area of Yola, a major urban centre in Adamawa State. Wuro-Kuturu is within the broader Yola North area, where the police maintain area commands responsible for responding to reports and investigating alleged offences. The Karewa Area Command was responsible for the arrests announced in this case.
The Adamawa police command has continued to urge residents to report suspicious activities and criminal incidents promptly. In this case, the investigation followed a complaint by the alleged victim, leading to the arrests two days after the reported attack.
For the family involved, the allegation places a serious strain on a household where the alleged principal suspect is said to be a member of the family. For investigators, the central task now is to establish what happened inside the residence, determine each suspect’s alleged role, trace any missing property and assess the evidentiary value of the items recovered.
The police investigation will also determine whether the allegations made against the three men can be supported by admissible evidence. Until that process is completed and a court reaches a determination, the suspects remain accused persons rather than convicted offenders.
The case is expected to proceed through the normal criminal justice process if investigators conclude that sufficient evidence exists to support prosecution.
