Concern has spread on social media following reports that a 21-year-old National Youth Service Corps member identified as Kachi has died while participating in the NYSC orientation exercise at the permanent orientation camp in Issele-Uku, Delta State.

Posts attributed to friends and acquaintances of the deceased claimed that Kachi died after allegedly consuming what was described as adulterated alcohol during the orientation programme.

One social media user who identified the deceased as a coursemate reportedly alleged that Kachi suffered alcohol poisoning, describing the death as avoidable.

However, as of Tuesday, October 6, 2026, there was no official statement from the National Youth Service Corps or the Delta State Government publicly confirming the reported death or establishing that adulterated alcohol was responsible.

The NYSC officially identifies Issele-Uku as the location of its permanent orientation camp in Delta State. The agency's Corps Welfare and Health Services Department is also responsible for health and welfare matters affecting corps members.

The unverified reports have nevertheless generated concern among social media users, particularly over allegations surrounding the availability and consumption of adulterated alcoholic products.

The circumstances surrounding the reported death, including where the alleged drink was obtained, whether it was medically confirmed to be adulterated and the precise cause of death, remain unclear.

Further confirmation from the NYSC, medical authorities, the Delta State Government or the police would be necessary before those claims can be established.

The NYSC maintains a dedicated health and welfare structure for corps members and provides a 24-hour distress call centre for corps members and members of the public.

Stone Reporters will continue to monitor the development and provide an update if the NYSC or other relevant authorities issue an official statement.
