The Kano State Sports Commission has announced the death of its Secretary, Bashir Maizare.
Maizare died on Wednesday night, October 7, 2026, the commission said in a statement issued on Thursday by its Public Relations Officer, Ashiru Gidan-Tudu.
The commission described his death as a major loss to the organisation and the wider sports community in Kano State.
It expressed condolences to his family, colleagues, friends and associates, while praying Allah to forgive his shortcomings, have mercy on him and grant his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
The funeral prayer for the deceased was scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 8, at his residence in Kofar Wambai, Kano, after which his remains would be taken for burial.
Maizare was appointed Secretary of the Kano State Sports Commission in June 2026, when Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved a new leadership structure for the commission.
The commission did not disclose the circumstances surrounding his death.
His death comes as a loss to Kano's sports administration, where he had been involved in coordinating the activities of the state Sports Commission.
