The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has arrested six women suspected of engaging in sex work during an operation in Gadaka, Fika Local Government Area of the state.

The arrests were made during a weekend operation by operatives of the commission’s Fika Local Government Area command in the Abuja area of Gadaka town.

The Head of Administration of the commission in Fika LGA, Malam Musa Abari Talba, confirmed the arrests, saying the operation was part of efforts to check activities considered contrary to the religious and moral values of the community.

Talba said the operation also covered locations suspected of selling and processing alcoholic drinks.

He said the commission used the exercise to sensitise residents and warn them against activities it considered harmful to peace and moral conduct in the community.

According to him, the operation was not limited to arrests, as Hisbah officials also engaged residents through awareness campaigns and encouraged them to comply with the law.

Talba said similar operations would continue across Fika Local Government Area as part of the commission’s efforts to promote peace, discipline and orderly communities.

The women remain suspects, and the allegation against them has not been established by a court.
