Three people, including an expatriate and two security operatives, have been killed after suspected Lakurawa terrorists attacked a construction site along the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attack occurred on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at a construction site in Gubba Village, Andarai District, where workers were engaged on the ongoing road project.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, with its spokesperson, Superintendent Bashir Usman, saying the attackers were suspected to have infiltrated the area through the Kebbe axis of neighbouring Sokoto State.

According to the police, the attackers targeted the construction site, killing two security personnel who were providing protection for the foreign national and other workers on the project.

Two civilians were also injured during the attack and were evacuated for medical treatment.

Usman said security agencies responded to the incident, while tactical teams were deployed to strengthen security around the affected communities.

The police spokesperson also disclosed that another attack by the suspected terrorists along the Birnin Malam axis on the same day was successfully repelled by security operatives.

Military personnel reportedly killed several of the suspected attackers during subsequent operations, with a number of motorcycles also recovered.

Following the attack, construction activities at the affected section of the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway were suspended as security agencies intensified surveillance and security operations in the area.

The police assured workers and contractors on the project of continued protection, while urging residents to remain calm as efforts to secure the area continue.

The incident comes amid renewed security concerns around parts of Kebbi bordering Sokoto, where suspected Lakurawa fighters have been linked to attacks.
