Nigerian police officers deployed to combat armed groups in Zamfara State have reportedly appealed for assistance over poor living conditions, with a video circulating online allegedly showing officers sleeping on mats and complaining about mosquito-infested accommodation.
In the footage, officers are reportedly heard expressing frustration over their circumstances, with one saying, “Mosquitoes will finish us before bandits,” a remark highlighting concerns about the conditions faced by personnel serving in areas affected by banditry.
The officers’ reported appeal has drawn attention to the welfare and operational support provided to security personnel deployed to some of Nigeria’s most challenging security zones.
Zamfara remains one of the states most affected by armed banditry, kidnapping and attacks on rural communities. Security personnel operating in the state face difficult conditions as they respond to threats against residents and public infrastructure.
On October 5, 2026, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal acknowledged continuing security challenges, particularly in Tsafe Local Government Area. He said the state government was working to improve response times, including through better road access and the use of technology to support security operations. <Cite refs={["turn604415search0","turn604415search14"]}/>
However, Stone Reporters News could not independently verify when or where the circulating video was recorded, the identities of the officers involved, or whether the accommodation shown represents their current deployment conditions. No official response from the Nigeria Police Force addressing the specific complaints was located.
The reported appeal has renewed questions about whether frontline personnel receive adequate accommodation, equipment and welfare support while serving in high-risk areas.
