Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has commended Bayelsa Queens for their strong showing at the ongoing WAFU Zone-B tournament in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, expressing confidence that the team will emerge champions and go on to represent the region at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Governor Diri gave the remarks after the state’s weekly Prosperity Walk at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa. He praised the female side for flying the flag of the state high and urged them to return home victorious.
The governor also congratulated Bayelsa United for opening their campaign in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) with an away win against Shooting Stars of Ibadan.
“For our girls who are doing very well in Ivory Coast, I congratulate them. They must come home as champions of the West African Zone and represent us at the continental level,” Diri said.
He further encouraged Bayelsa United to sustain their winning form, predicting that the new season could be a turning point for the team. According to him, consistent performance both home and away would place the club among the league leaders and secure a spot in continental competitions.
