Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has described Yobe State as a shining example in the promotion of foundational education, following the remarkable victory of three of its students at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Competition in London.
Dr. Alausa made the remarks while hosting the champions—Nafisa Garba, Rukayya Mohammed Fema, and Khadija Kashim—in Abuja. He praised the Yobe State government for prioritizing education and creating an enabling environment that produced world-class talents.
The minister said the students’ success was not just a victory for the state, but a source of pride for the entire country. He applauded parents and teachers for their support and reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to human capital development, stressing that education remains key to unlocking opportunities for Nigerian youth.
The girls were presented with personal tokens of support from the minister in recognition of their outstanding performance.
Speaking at the event, Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Abba Idris, attributed the achievement to Governor Mai Mala Buni’s strong investment in the education sector. He highlighted reforms including the reconstruction of 300 schools destroyed by insurgency, establishment of 15 mega and model schools, eight new girls’ secondary schools, and consistent payment of exam fees for all students in public schools.
Prof. Idris further noted that the state had constructed and renovated thousands of classrooms, trained over 9,000 teachers, improved school feeding programs, and invested heavily in scholarships and infrastructure, including solar-powered electricity and modern learning facilities.
He emphasized that these interventions have significantly boosted school enrollment, reduced absenteeism, and expanded access to quality education across the state.
