The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has impounded more than 700 vehicles for offences including the use of fake number plates, illegal tinted glass, and other traffic violations. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to ensure road safety and enforce compliance with traffic laws across the capital territory.
The FCTA’s Traffic and Vehicle Monitoring Unit confirmed that vehicles with counterfeit registration numbers, dark window tints, and other illegal modifications were seized during routine checks and special enforcement drives. Authorities stressed that the measure aims to protect commuters and residents from the dangers of reckless driving and unregulated vehicles.
Spokesperson for the FCTA said, “Drivers who flout traffic laws not only put themselves at risk but endanger other road users. These enforcement measures are essential to maintain order and safety on our roads.”
Impounded vehicles will be released only after owners complete verification of documents and payment of fines. Repeat offenders may face stricter penalties, including permanent confiscation or revocation of vehicle registration.
Experts have applauded the move, highlighting enforcement and awareness campaigns as key steps toward safer urban roads. The FCTA continues to encourage drivers to comply with regulations, including proper registration and legal window tints, to prevent accidents and enhance public safety.
