The Akwa Ibom State Government has debunked social media reports alleging that Governor Umo Eno, PhD, promised a ₦50,000 monthly stipend to applicants who were unsuccessful in the ongoing Civil Service recruitment exercise. The claim, circulating widely online, was described by the government as false and misleading.
According to the official statement released by Ekerete Udoh, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the Civil Service recruitment process remains strictly merit-based. Applicants who submitted their applications through the official employment portal will be shortlisted for a Computer-Based Test (CBT), with only those who pass advancing to the oral interview stage. At no point did the Governor or the government announce any monthly stipend for unsuccessful candidates.
The clarification also highlighted the Arise Employment Portal youth empowerment programme, under which registered youths are eligible for a one-time grant of ₦50,000. Officials stressed that this grant is completely separate from the Civil Service recruitment exercise and should not be misinterpreted as compensation for applicants who did not succeed.
Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and accountability, assuring the public that the Civil Service recruitment will be fair, transparent, and strictly based on merit, with no preferential treatment or reserved slots for anyone.
Members of the public are urged to rely solely on official government channels for accurate information regarding recruitment and youth empowerment initiatives.
