The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified enforcement operations against hawkers and peddlers of unregistered, counterfeit, expired, and substandard pharmaceutical products across the country. The operations targeted Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja, and Asaba, cities identified as hotspots for illegal drug sales.
During the raids, NAFDAC officials confiscated a wide range of illicit products, including aphrodisiacs, oxytocins, narcotic analgesics such as tramadol and morphine, sex enhancement drugs, antibiotics, and various painkillers. More than 15 offenders were arrested, and products valued at over ₦110,938,800 were seized and evacuated from the streets. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of NAFDAC, reiterated that the sale and distribution of medicines in unapproved locations is strictly prohibited. She warned that violators would face severe penalties and urged Nigerians to avoid patronising drug hawkers, emphasizing that the agency’s crackdown would continue until all offenders are held accountable.
