The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has expressed profound indignation over the recent attack on Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) at Mile 2, describing the incident as “vicious” and “utterly reprehensible.”

In a statement, Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, condemned the assault, saying it constitutes a direct affront to the authority and dignity of the Lagos State Government. He stressed that VIO officials are legally empowered agents, tasked with safeguarding lives through road safety enforcement, and that any attack against them undermines the rule of law and public order.

“The Ministry declares in the strongest possible terms that this descent into lawlessness will not be tolerated. The perpetrators of this disgraceful attack will be relentlessly pursued, apprehended, and subjected to the full sanctions of the law,” the statement read.

The Commissioner confirmed that the injured officers are receiving treatment and expressed the government’s unwavering solidarity with them. He reassured all personnel of the State’s commitment to their safety and dignity, emphasizing that the Ministry will continue to protect those who serve and will not allow criminal elements to obstruct lawful government operations.
