President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday in Abuja announced that Nigeria’s 2025 revenue target was successfully achieved in August, attributing the milestone largely to economic reforms aimed at stimulating the non-oil sector. Speaking at a meeting with founding members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and The Buhari Organisation, led by former Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, the President highlighted the government’s commitment to sustainable development, food sovereignty, and infrastructure expansion under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The economy is now stabilised. Nobody is trading pieces of paper for foreign exchange (forex) anymore. The economy is now predictable. You do not need to know the CBN Governor, Yemi Cardoso, to obtain foreign exchange or import goods. What we need now is building the ship and the vessels for the export of our goods and creating more jobs for our people,” President Tinubu stated. He emphasized that the bulk of the revenue was generated from the non-oil sector, a sign of the administration’s efforts to diversify the economy and strengthen national resilience.
The President also outlined plans to establish agricultural mechanisation centres across all regions of the country. These centres are designed to enhance capacity, expand cultivation and harvest, and guarantee food sovereignty. “We are going to have trainees. That programme is our path to food sovereignty,” he added, underscoring the government’s focus on self-sufficiency in food production.
Reflecting on his political journey and longstanding ties with the CPC, President Tinubu described the merger with the APC as “a sweet memory” and expressed appreciation for the group’s support over the years. He assured them that the legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari would be preserved and immortalised with the establishment of a Buhari House. He further promised to provide more members of the old CPC opportunities to participate actively in government.
“When I see people like you, I am determined to work harder. Thank you for your patience until now. But first of all, we must cure the economy and bring hope to the people, which is what we stand for. Thank you for believing in me,” the President affirmed.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, commended President Tinubu for his statesmanship, vision, and broadmindedness in accommodating political stakeholders. Al-Makura, speaking on behalf of the delegation, reiterated their commitment to supporting the APC government and assured President Tinubu of their loyalty, pledging to work towards the party’s success and the President’s re-election in 2027.
Al-Makura also expressed gratitude to the President for his active participation in the final rites of former President Buhari, praising him for ensuring a dignified state burial with full military honours. “You not only buried President Buhari but also honoured him and ensured a befitting state burial with full military honours. Above all, your presence throughout the ceremony was comforting as it was reassuring,” he said.
The meeting highlighted Nigeria’s progress under President Tinubu’s leadership, reinforcing the administration’s focus on economic stabilization, infrastructure development, and political inclusivity.
