Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has procured and flagged off the distribution of 408,137 teaching and learning materials to public schools across the state. The official ceremony took place at the Teacher Training and Development Centre (TTDC), Bypass Road, Gusau, the state capital.
Governor Lawal, while overseeing the distribution, emphasized that the initiative is more than just handing out books. “This is about keeping Zamfara on a path of recovery, renewal, and progress through quality education,” he stated.
He acknowledged the support of the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), which contributed 5,000 climate change and early warning handbooks, and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), which provided an additional 777,609 instructional materials to complement the Zamfara State Government’s initiative.
Governor Lawal appreciated the role of teachers in the educational process, noting that no investment can replace their dedication to inspiring students daily. He further stressed that the materials would have meaningful impact only if effectively utilized by educators.
The State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Wadatau Madawaki, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Maryam Shantali, lauded Governor Lawal for fulfilling his administration’s desire to reposition the education sector.
The Chairman of the Zamfara State Universal Education Board, Professor Nasiru Anka, disclosed that a monitoring committee has been established to ensure the teaching and learning materials are properly utilized to improve the quality of education in the state.
Governor Lawal also commended development partners for their continued support and urged them to do more. He appealed to parents and guardians to encourage their children and wards to take education seriously, highlighting that discipline and guidance at home are foundational to success.
