The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned Nigerians to ignore a fake recruitment advert currently circulating on social media, which falsely claims that the Commission is hiring for various positions. The fraudulent announcement, which has been shared across multiple platforms, also directed unsuspecting applicants to a fake website, www.inecrecruitment.com, to submit their details. INEC has made it clear that it has no such portal and is not conducting any recruitment exercise at the moment.
The Commission explained that the advert is the handiwork of criminal elements seeking to exploit the desperation of job seekers, and it urged members of the public not to fall victim to the scam. By swiftly issuing the clarification, INEC aims to protect citizens from fraudulent activities while reaffirming its transparency in official communications.
The development highlights the growing challenge of online fraud in Nigeria, where fake portals and impersonation schemes are increasingly used to target vulnerable groups. It also serves as a reminder for citizens to remain vigilant and verify information only through INEC’s official website and recognized communication channels.
INEC stressed once again that it is not recruiting and that Nigerians should disregard any calls to apply for positions through unofficial means. The Commission reassured the public of its commitment to safeguarding its integrity and urged citizens to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
