Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has restated the commitment of the Northern Governors’ Forum to reposition the New Nigeria Development Company Limited (NNDC) as a viable platform for regional economic growth.
Governor Zulum, who chairs the implementation committee for the revitalisation of the NNDC, said the move is aimed at transforming the moribund company into a leading development finance institution capable of driving commercial and industrial growth across the 19 Northern states.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting held on Monday at the office of the Kaduna State Secretary to the Government, Zulum commended the Forum for setting up the committee based on the recommendations of a 2018 technical report. He assured that the committee will adopt global best practices to restore NNDC’s full potential, while addressing institutional challenges and staff welfare.
He further described the NNDC as the strongest economic legacy uniting the 19 Northern states, symbolised by its iconic 10-storey headquarters in Kaduna, which he said must be preserved.
The meeting was attended by deputy governors of Zamfara, Kwara, and Plateau states, as well as senior officials of Adamawa and Borno governments, alongside the Group Managing Director and Executive Directors of the NNDC.
