The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has received commendations from prominent Christian leaders for his administration’s transformational leadership, which they say is driving both spiritual and physical upliftment across the state. Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, General Overseer of Word of Life Bible Church, and Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Sokoto Diocese, offered their praise during separate courtesy visits to Government House, Yenagoa, on Monday.
Pastor Oritsejafor expressed appreciation for the state’s continued affirmation of its Christian identity, highlighting the courage of Governor Diri and his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in openly embracing their faith. He prayed for divine blessings on the people and leadership of Bayelsa, emphasizing that the state’s Christian values would invite heavenly favor and continual progress.
Bishop Kukah also lauded the visible transformation in Bayelsa under the current administration, noting improvements in development and governance. Speaking in the context of his visit to deliver a memorial lecture for one of the state’s founding fathers, the late Dr. Abraham Ambaiowei, Kukah encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and work towards national greatness, pointing to the state’s strides as a model of progress and dedication.
Responding through his deputy, Governor Diri expressed gratitude to the clerics for their unwavering spiritual leadership and support for the state. He particularly praised Bishop Kukah as a moral compass and courageous voice for truth, urging Christians to balance earthly pursuits with spiritual priorities. The governor stressed that religious practice should go beyond words, urging faith leaders to guide followers in aligning actions with spiritual teachings.
The visits underscored the significant role of faith leaders in fostering moral guidance and community development in Bayelsa, while reaffirming the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and spiritual values.
