The Kaduna State Government has strengthened its partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation by signing the Kaduna Mutual Accountability Framework (KaMAF), an initiative aimed at improving healthcare, agriculture, and economic growth in the state.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, signaling a joint commitment to sustainable development through targeted programs and enhanced cooperation.

Governor Uba Sani described KaMAF as a key step in Kaduna’s development agenda, noting that the framework represents a shift from promises to action by emphasizing accountability, transparency, and citizen-centered priorities. While not legally binding, KaMAF will guide dialogue and collaboration between the state and the foundation, covering the period from 2025 to 2026, with regular reviews and oversight by a Joint Steering Committee.

The framework builds on Kaduna’s earlier International Development Cooperation Framework (2017–2020) and introduces mechanisms for dialogue, measurable commitments, and citizen-focused monitoring. Key areas of focus include healthcare strengthening, maternal and child health, disease prevention, agricultural innovation, data management, realistic budgeting, and economic empowerment.

Gates Foundation’s Country Director for Nigeria, Uche Amaonwu, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to Kaduna, highlighting its dedication to inclusive, accountable, and data-driven development. Amaonwu said the Foundation is investing in people and communities by supporting stronger healthcare, broader access to economic opportunities, and ensuring that government spending delivers tangible impact.
