The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that passenger train operations on the Abuja–Kaduna route are set to resume next week, following the completion of repairs and comprehensive safety checks on the damaged section of the track.

The service had been suspended since August 26, 2025, after a train derailment. Callistus Unyimadu, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, confirmed the upcoming resumption, noting that both infrastructure and rolling stock have been restored to meet “the highest safety standards in line with global best practices.”

Unyimadu also revealed that refunds have been issued to 512 of the 583 passengers affected by the derailment, with efforts ongoing to settle the remaining claims. He expressed gratitude to passengers for their patience and reassured the public that safety and comfort remain the corporation’s top priorities.

The NRC further acknowledged the support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and other stakeholders during the recovery process. Official details on the restart date and train schedules are expected to be released in the coming days.
