Asaba, Delta State — The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling perennial flooding in the state capital through massive drainage and flood control projects.

During an inspection tour on Summit Road in Asaba, the Governor assessed the progress of the ongoing stormwater management and flood control system which stretches through Nwelih Street, St. Patrick’s College, West End Mixed Secondary School, and Uche Medua Igeh Close, connecting to the Amilimocha River in Oshimili South Local Government Area.

The Governor, who was briefed on-site by Mr. Solomon Akpotor, the Director of Urban Roads at the Ministry of Works, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work being executed.

“This project is designed to bring an end to the persistent flooding experienced around the Inter Bau Roundabout, Ogagifo Street, and the ShopRite Mall axis,” Oborevwori stated. “I am pleased to hear from the contracting firm that it will be completed by the first quarter of next year, making flooding in these areas a thing of the past.”

Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the project forms part of his administration’s broader environmental and infrastructural strategy to make Asaba cleaner, safer, and more resilient during heavy rainfall.

He assured residents that the state government remains resolute in delivering sustainable infrastructure that improves the quality of life and supports the long-term growth of Delta State’s urban centres.
