Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced the rehabilitation of 73 government secondary schools across Abuja, alongside the commencement of the 15-kilometre Old Keffi Road rehabilitation from Kado Village to Dei-Dei. The initiatives form part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at revamping public infrastructure and improving access to quality education.

Speaking during the flag-off event on Tuesday, Minister Wike highlighted that out of 103 government secondary schools in the FCT, 73 are currently undergoing renovation, with 33 more projects set to be commissioned soon. The road project, he said, is part of broader interventions to ease traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and stimulate economic activities within the territory.

The minister recalled that the rehabilitation of the Saburi 1 and Saburi 2 roads, commissioned earlier, was linked to the completion of the Old Keffi Road. “When we commissioned the Saburi Road, I said it could only be complete if this Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei was also rehabilitated. Today, to the glory of God, we are here to fulfill that promise made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Wike stated.

Lubrik Construction Company, recognized for its work on the Saburi project, has been awarded the Old Keffi Road contract due to its proven technical capacity. Wike directed the firm to prioritize local content by employing youths and residents from host communities to ensure they benefit economically during the project’s execution.

The minister commended the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, for advocating priority projects that address residents’ needs. He also urged Abuja residents to support the Tinubu administration and avoid politicians who, he warned, “failed to deliver when they had the chance.”

Highlighting the scale of the FCT Administration’s development agenda, Wike revealed that 27 project flag-offs are scheduled across Abuja, describing them as tangible evidence of the President’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing citizens’ quality of life.

In her remarks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, praised the road project for linking communities, reducing travel time, improving road safety, and stimulating socio-economic activities. She commended both President Tinubu and Minister Wike for prioritizing projects that promote inclusive development across the Federal Capital Territory.
