On Friday, 22nd August 2025, the Wife of the Bayelsa State Governor, Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Diri, on behalf of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, disbursed ₦50,000 grants to women across the state.
The initiative, carried out under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Women Economic Empowerment Scheme in collaboration with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, is designed to strengthen and recapitalize existing businesses owned by women.
Speaking at the event, Dr. (Mrs.) Diri said the gesture represents a deliberate effort to support women’s economic independence, which in turn contributes to family stability and community growth.
“It is my belief that this, in addition to previous supports, will in no small measure boost the economic fortunes of Bayelsa women while also sustaining better families,” she stated.
She further expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries to the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Tony Elumelu Foundation for their continued commitment to women’s empowerment.
“On behalf of all the beneficiaries, I appreciate this benevolence from our dear mother, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Tony Elumelu Foundation,” she added.
The scheme is part of broader efforts by the Renewed Hope Initiative to provide women with access to capital, foster entrepreneurship, and reduce poverty by encouraging women-owned small businesses.
By channeling resources to grassroots entrepreneurs, the program is expected to enhance economic resilience, expand opportunities, and uplift households across Bayelsa State.
