The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has approved the promotion of 30 senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to the prestigious rank of Assistant Controller General of Corrections.

The Board, in a press release issued on Tuesday and signed by Umar Abubakar, the NCoS spokesperson, emphasized that the promotions were a product of the CDCFIB’s unwavering commitment to merit-based advancement, professional excellence, and leadership development within the service.

> “These promotions reflect our continuous drive to strengthen the leadership capacity of the Nigerian Correctional Service in line with modern correctional practices,” the statement read.

Among the newly promoted officers:

27 are General Duty Officers, recognized for their exceptional dedication, leadership acumen, and operational competence across various formations nationwide.

Minister’s Support and Institutional Momentum

The Board acknowledged the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his unprecedented support and transformational leadership, which have provided the momentum for the reforms and promotions seen across the service.

Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to embrace the responsibilities that accompany their new roles.

> “I urge them to redouble their efforts in service delivery, strategic leadership, and the core mandates of reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates,” he stated.

Nwakuche emphasized that the promotions are not merely rewards for past achievements, but a "call to higher responsibility" in line with global best practices in correctional management.

> “The Service remains committed to building a motivated, disciplined, and professional workforce capable of meeting the complex demands of modern corrections and public safety,” he concluded.
