Nigeria has taken the lead among 11 African countries by becoming the first nation to commence work on the Africa-BB-Maps Project, an initiative spearheaded by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to improve broadband infrastructure and digital inclusion across the continent.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) officially flagged off the Africa-BB-Maps National Event yesterday in Abuja, marking a significant milestone in Africa’s digital transformation agenda.

Day 1 of the event brought together key stakeholders from government, industry, and development partners, with discussions centered on collaborative strategies for broadband infrastructure mapping, national planning, and accelerated digital inclusion.

The initiative is aimed at enhancing the accuracy of broadband coverage data, which is critical for informed policy decisions, infrastructure investment, and bridging digital divides in underserved regions.

As the first African country to launch the program, Nigeria has set the pace for regional progress, signaling its strong commitment to tech-driven development, inclusive connectivity, and global digital cooperation.

The Africa-BB-Maps project aligns with Nigeria’s national broadband goals and the NCC’s strategic vision to ensure that no community is left behind in the ongoing digital revolution.
