In a landmark move to promote child health and support working mothers, the Kaduna State Ministry of Health has launched fully equipped baby crèche facilities at its headquarters, located at the Dira Miller Secretariat, Independence Way, Kaduna.
Commissioned as part of the 2025 World Breastfeeding Week celebrations, the initiative aligns with this year’s theme:
“Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create a Sustainable Support System.”
The crèche provides a safe, serene, and supportive space where mothers can breastfeed and care for their infants during working hours, without compromising their professional commitments.
> “This crèche is more than just rooms,” said Honourable Commissioner for Health, Umma K. Ahmed during the commissioning. “It represents care, inclusion, and our commitment to ensure no woman has to choose between her career and her child’s wellbeing.”
Supported by the World Bank’s ANRiN Project, the facility features modern, child-friendly amenities and was purposefully designed to reduce stress for breastfeeding mothers, promote nutrition, and uphold workplace dignity.
During the event, Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu, who represented the Deputy Governor, applauded the initiative and urged other ministries and institutions to replicate the model, describing it as a critical step toward achieving breastfeeding-friendly work environments.
Kaduna State expressed gratitude to its partners and sister MDAs, including UNICEF, WHO, Alive & Thrive, the Gates Foundation, Primary Health Care Board, Ministry of Budget & Planning, and others, for their unwavering support in bringing the vision to life.
This initiative reflects Kaduna State’s broader commitment to maternal and child health, as well as its dedication to creating an inclusive, supportive workplace for all women.
> “Together, we are building a Kaduna where every mother is supported, and every child gets the healthiest start in life,” said a representative of the Ministry.
