In a significant move to tighten security along Nigeria’s vulnerable waterways, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Western Marine Command and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Lagos Marine Command have commenced a three-day joint training programme aimed at enhancing inter-agency collaboration and operational efficiency.
The programme kicked off on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, with a joint parade held at Ibafon, Lagos — a symbolic gesture of unity and shared purpose between the two maritime security agencies.
Addressing the assembled officers, Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, Area Controller of Customs, emphasized the importance of the collaboration.
> “This is my first parade, and I’m pleased to hold it alongside the Immigration Service. We are like twins in service, working towards the same national objective,” Ntadi said.
“This training aligns with the vision of our Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, who prioritizes capacity building and joint operations.”
The event will culminate in a joint waterway patrol, showcasing a united front against escalating maritime threats such as smuggling, illegal migration, and piracy.
Also speaking at the event, Comptroller Clementina Ogbudu of the Immigration Lagos Marine Command commended the professionalism and commitment of the officers.
> “You have consistently shown vigilance and professionalism in your duties. Today, we choose to work together to form a team that is difficult to breach,” she said.
The opening session of the training featured a strategic lecture titled:
“Collaborating for National Security and Development: A Blueprint for the Nigeria Immigration and Customs Services”, setting the tone for inter-agency synergy in addressing national security challenges.
This initiative marks a bold step toward multi-agency maritime security cooperation, reinforcing Nigeria’s resolve to protect its waterways and borders.
