The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Oluwakemi Rufai, the newly sworn-in councillor representing Ward C1.
Rufai’s passing comes barely two weeks after she took the oath of office, cutting short what many believed would be a promising tenure of service to her constituents.
Local sources say the news of her death has left colleagues, residents, and political leaders in shock, as tributes pour in to honour her dedication and commitment to community development.
The cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed by the authorities.
Her colleagues at the council described her as “a vibrant leader with a heart for the people”, while residents of Ward C1 have called her passing “a great loss to the community”.
Funeral arrangements and official statements from the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government are expected in the coming days.
