Justice D.I. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, convicted and sentenced Abraham Joseph Peter to one month imprisonment for internet fraud. The convict was apprehended on July 7, 2025, at Cruizer Hotel in Ajegunle during a sting operation conducted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, following intelligence reports of fraudulent online activities at the location.

Peter was arraigned on a one-count charge related to cybercrime and was promptly tried and sentenced by the court.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by the EFCC to clamp down on internet fraud, a persistent challenge affecting Nigeria’s digital and financial landscape. Quick arrests and prompt prosecutions, as seen in this case, signal a proactive stance by law enforcement to deter cybercriminals, safeguard the public, and protect the integrity of online financial systems. While the one-month sentence may seem brief, it serves as a clear warning that illegal online activities carry legal consequences and are under strict surveillance.
