Owerri, Imo State – Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed deep appreciation for the warmth and hospitality he received during his two-day visit to Owerri, describing the trip as a success in strengthening engagements for national unity and progress.
Reflecting on the visit, El-Rufai noted that he was well-received at every stop, from religious institutions to political stakeholders and traditional leaders, adding that the openness displayed was a powerful demonstration of Nigerian unity beyond regional divides.
“Owerri has been a great visit. We were well-received everywhere we went. From religious institutions to engagements with stakeholders, political associates and the traditional institution, it has been a consistent pattern of welcome and openness,” El-Rufai said.
He thanked the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri for inviting him to deliver the 2025 Odenigbo Lecture, and also appreciated the opportunity to address participants at the Women’s Conference of the Anglican Diocese of Egbu. He further acknowledged the warm hospitality of His Highness Eze Stephen Kemjika Agumanu of Nekede.
El-Rufai also highlighted the interactive session on his first night as a memorable engagement, commending the solidarity of His Excellency Peter Obi, who attended despite being unwell.
“I am overwhelmed by the grace and dignity displayed by the institutions and personalities that have received us. It is an exemplary display of a Nigerian citizen being made to feel welcome outside of his home area, amidst all the attempts at division,” he remarked.
He concluded by stating that Owerri has been kind and open, leaving him and his team with lasting positive memories.
