At the recent Waterfront Summit, Mrs. Toyin Anjous-Ademuyiwa, Director General of the Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation (OTCI) in Lagos State, called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to achieve sustainable development and efficient governance.
Speaking to distinguished guests, Mrs. Anjous-Ademuyiwa emphasized that Lagos’s waterfront is not merely an economic hub but also a symbol of connection and balance. She noted that fragmented governance slows progress, while harmonized systems enhance transparency, service delivery, and sustainable outcomes.
The OTCI office, she explained, drives institutional reforms, aligns mandates, and promotes innovative approaches in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, aiming to improve problem-solving and service efficiency.
The DG highlighted the distinct roles of the Waterfront, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), and the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, stressing that coordination among these entities is critical for effective management of land, waterways, and water resources.
She acknowledged the sector’s past challenges, including weak structures, poor coordination, and stalled projects. However, recent reforms have delivered tangible results: stronger inter-agency partnerships, completion of projects, enhanced stakeholder engagement, and innovative capacity-building initiatives.
Mrs. Anjous-Ademuyiwa concluded by asserting that true transformation involves removing bureaucratic hurdles and fostering adaptive governance. She encouraged citizen participation and compliance with regulations to ensure Lagos’s waterfronts are sustainably developed, creating resilient spaces that benefit both communities and the economy.
