Residents of Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area have presented gifts of farm produce, including onions, watermelon, and smoked fish, to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in appreciation of his efforts to resettle the town over the past three years.
The community noted that the resettlement has restored their financial independence, contrasting sharply with their previous life in IDP camps, where survival depended largely on handouts.
Speaking on behalf of the residents, Abba Aji Alhaji Aji expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum, saying, “Your Excellency, we sincerely thank you for your bold initiative to reopen Baga in September 2020 and resettle us back to our homes. In the past, we relied on handouts to survive, but now we farm, fish, and engage in other trades to earn a living with dignity.”
He added, “These farm produce are directly from our farms. We earn as much as we can consume and sell some to cater to our needs. We present this gift to appreciate you and all the risks you have taken to ensure our safe return.”
The residents also presented Governor Zulum with a public service award in recognition of his developmental projects across Baga and other parts of Borno State.
Governor Zulum expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Baga, praising their resilience, hard work, and commitment to nation-building.
